Where is my mind? Where is my mind?

Mother's Day is a tough time of year for me. But it's also a hopeful time.

I lost my mama at, what I now consider, to be a pretty young age. I feel like I have aged a decade since she passed. I went from naive, spoiled Mama's Girl to...Well, I don't know really. I grew up, I guess. Learned to manage my finances, got a real job, learned to stand on my own two feet.

Mother's Day is also a reminder that I am not a mother yet. This is, however, my first Mother's Day where I feel immediate, concrete hope of being a mother.

I am also blessed two have two very strong Mothers in my life, Malinda and my MIL Dorothy, who are constant in their support and love.

God has truly blessed me in my life to be covered up in moms, who have each taught me different things.

I pray that next year finds us celebrating Mother's Day with our sweet boy. I pray the same for others, like me, to whom the greatest gift of all would be a child.

International waffle day

We're so stuffed that we are just now recovering enough to post about International Waffle Day. What did we do to celebrate? We bought our first Waffle Iron, a Black and Decker (David was pumped. I think he considered it a "tool."). So far we've done traditional waffles with syrup and butter and waffles with whipped and fruit. Any suggestions, friends? Photos to come.

"So Bad, It's Good" Poetry

In a nod to Bad Poetry Day earlier this week and Poets Day, which is today, David wanted to share a lovely little ditty written by the PCU day shift for his night crew:

Dear Night Shift - You are pretty. You are sweet.
You're not fat enough, so get something to eat.
 <3, Steel & Downey

This certainly perked D. up. When you're used to working on a night shift and having little communication with the rest of the shifts beyond shift change, it certainly is nice to get a note from your daylight counterparts.

It didn't hurt that it was accompanied by food. :)

National Radio Day

Following the advice of a radio professional/friend, today's holiday (National Radio Day) was celebrated with an old classic called "WKRP in Cincinnati."

I remember watching this show in reruns when growing up, and I'm glad that Jared reminded me of it. I'm pretty sure this show played some part in my desire to go to school for Mass Communication.

Sadly, the only radio-themed TV (Hypocrisy, thou art my friend!) David is watching tonight is whatever his patients are watching as he checks their vitals and administers medicine. He did say that he listened to the radio on the way in to work.

Want to join us in our quest to celebrate silly holidays?  Here's a link to Hulu where you can watch full episodes of radio-y goodness with me:

Next up - Waffle Day! (An experiment with the George Foreman Grill)

Bad Joke Day

Oh, yes, it was!

As our first "silly" holiday, we felt a certain obligation to mine for those jokes that really make you cringe...Maybe with laughter, maybe with the same feeling that you get when watching a kid's talent show. You know? That general feeling of uncomfortableness.

I chose to celebrate by attacking David with (bad) jokes as soon as he woke up, but he certainly took the cake. He tortured me with a list (LIST) of bad jokes until I cried "Uncle."

 Here are a couple gems:

What is brown and sticky?
-A brown stick...

Did you hear about the two fat men who ran in the New York Marathon?
-One ran in short bursts, the other in burst shorts!

Now, that second one is a definite favorite of mine. If you can have favorite bad jokes, that is.

And to prove that we really are Bad Joke Lovers in this Prestwich Family, here's our Christmas card from this year:

Laura: Can you hear anything, Dave?

David: Lean to the left a little...I think I hear a marble in there.
