Just recently, I celebrated my 10 year high school reunion by spending a weekend on the lake in our hometown with my class. Despite the fact that we were all squicked out by having graduated 10 years ago, we had a blast reliving old memories and partying like it was 2003. (My husband said he was kind of shocked that we were such a close class even after all these years. That's what being 1 of like 24 folks will do for ya!)
Anyway, while we were there, two of my lovely classmates decorated the lodge with burlap and candles. My favorite decorating! A gorgeous burlap pennant that had our class year on it. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to make one for the nursery.
Fortunately, it is dead easy and cheap to make. I only needed a few items:
Supplies:
Burlap blanks from Hobby Lobby ($3.97 for 4, scrap booking aisle)
Jute string
Paint pen
Steps:
There's really nothing to it! I laid the burlap blank on top of an old magazine to control bleed, and I simply drew the letters freehand! I did a couple of coats for opacity.
After that, I used my scissors to punch a little hold in the top corners and threaded my jute through. That was the hardest part. I would recommend wrapping the end of your string in tape to make it easier to thread.
Once done, I had David hang it up on two nails in the nursery and then adjusted it until it was flat and pretty. Easy peasy!
Now that that's taken care of, let's go back to pretending I'm 24 again. K, thanks? ;)
